Friends and Members:
Membership
The Abbeyfield West Herts Society is the independent charity association and company set up to own and run our Tannerswood home (11, Greenways). As an association members play an import role in our governance. The governance document of the society sets out our core aims:
- The Society is established for the benefit of the community of Abbots Langley
- It's purpose is to provide affordable supported accommodation for elderly persons
The voluntary Trustees are responsible for the day-to-day running of the House and meeting regulatory requirements, but voluntary members play a vital role acting as ‘Limited Liability Guarantors’ (liability limited to £1 each) providing an oversight of the Charity on behalf of the wider Abbots Langley community.
Collectively members have the power to appoint Trustees at the AGM and hold a veto over changes to our constitution to safeguard the long term interests of the community.
Members are invited to our activities and events and any help from members to stage these events is always welcome!
Friends of the House
'Friends of the House' are invited to all of our events and activities, taking an interest in what we are doing and supporting our presense in the community. They also provide volunteer help.
We have paid staff to run the home including cooks and overnight security, but the trustees cannot organise and stage the activities (coffee mornings, trips) and events (Chistmas party, summer party) on their own! We call on our friends of the house to help.
Thoughout its 50 years history, the house has had a strong volunteer team to help, but we are always looking for new friends of the house. New friends are always welcome.
